One of the hottest gift options for Christmas is the Apple AirPods, though shoppers may have to wait until early next year before they can get hold of the item.
According to a USA Today report, the wireless Bluetooth earbuds are currently sold out in Apple Stores. Online retailers such as Target and Best Buy also have the same dilemma, and things will likely to stay that way through January.
Sources like the AT&T online store, on the other hand, offers a two-day delivery deal for the AirPods, though shoppers need to shell out an additional $14.95 for the delivery fee, the report added. Since the products were first launched in 2016, Apple has been struggling with the AirPods' production to keep up with the customer demand. Creative Strategies analyst Tim Bajarin said that the seeing the item go sold out practically everywhere is nothing but normal.
"It's been the hottest of all the wireless earbuds for months," said Bajarin, noting that the product has effectively attracted consumers for its remarkable sound quality on top of an affordable price tag. "It just gets the job done," the analyst added.
Meanwhile, 9to5Mac reported that the same thing already happened in Christmas last year. The earbuds didn't make it until after early January, and things are shaping up to happening all over again. Back in August, Apple CEO Tim Cook acknowledged their struggles in meeting the public's demand for the product.
"We have increased production capacity for AirPods and are working very hard to get them to customers as quickly as we can, but we are still not able to meet the strong level of demand," the Apple boss explained.
With Christmas day happening in a few days, USA Today noted that frustrated shoppers have started to explore other options like the eBay auction. The payoff, however, is the steep price tag, as prices for the AirPods can go up to as high as $350.
