Fans of the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise are still eagerly waiting for some fresh update on the release date of "Grand Theft Auto VI" (GTA VI). Rockstar Games, however, has yet to reveal any concrete date, though some developments within the studio may serve as clues to a possible time frame for its launching.
According to a report from The Sun, fans may have to wait a little bit longer as the game developer is gearing up for the release of another highly-anticipated title in "Red Dead Redemption 2." The game will likely launch sometime during the first half of the year, which instantly rules out a 2018 release, the report noted.
"GTA VI," however, is allegedly already well in the pipeline, though the report stressed that it takes several years to develop an expansive game like "Grand Theft Auto." Noting that "GTA VI" will be Rockstar's biggest for the franchise, the developer will most likely take its time to build the game. In addition, "GTA V," which came out in 2013, was launched five years after "GTA IV (2008)."
On a positive note, fans can hold on to the fact that Rockstar has already started building "GTA VI." Back in 2013, Rockstar President Leslie Benzies has already confirmed that the game's development was already in its infancy. "We don't know what GTA 6 will be, but we've got some ideas," noted Benzies in an interview with Develop.
"It comes from the idea first. Where it is going to be set is the first question. Then that defines the missions; you're doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami," shared the Rockstar boss. "The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the mission in," Benzies added.
Meanwhile, TrustedReviews mentioned that there are also rumors of a 2020 release date for GTA VI. It is important for fans to manage their expectations, though, considering the complexities that involve in creating a video game as massive as GTA.
