Riding on the heels of the unveiling of the video trailer for The Flash earlier this week, NetherRealm followed up with a new trailer, this time explaining how the game can be enjoyed using the Gear system.
The video game developer shared that the new system in the upcoming "Injustice 2" video game allows players to equip their characters with different kinds of suits and other cosmetic items, as well as skills that can be updated and leveled up. The video said that through the "infinitely rewarding Gear system," players will be fully in-charge as to "how their journey unfolds." It provides more depth in terms of evolving characters and achieving goals. Each character in the game has four base stats, namely, strength, health, defense, and ability, which they can increase and improve.
Players can suit up their characters, regardless if they're heroes or villains, with new sets of gears added and can be expanded through experience gained through playing. For every victory earned, "more specialized gears" that will boost and flexibility in battle are unlocked. More opportunities to "supercharge" the characters' looks will also become available.
Moreover, there are also key achievements that will yield augments, special moves, and abilities. The biggest highlight of the Gear system, however, is the freedom it provides players when it comes to managing how their characters look and how they will fare in the battle arena through different skills, armors, and weapons earned that will provide the winning edge.
Meanwhile, a report from Gamespot clarified that the new Gear system is different from the microtransaction/currency system called Source Crystals, as the latter can be used to acquire cosmetic items that do not have any impact on the gameplay.
In related news, earlier this week, NetherRealm released a trailer video for The Flash showing some of his lightning-quick moves against different opponents.
"Injustice 2" is scheduled for release on May 16 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
