NBA 2018 rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James and Dan Gilbert's relationship eroding badly?

(Reuters/Dennis Wierzbicki/USA TODAY Sports)Things are not looking good for LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers lately.

Tension and turmoil are at an all-time high in Cleveland, as the Cavaliers prized superstar and the team's owner are reportedly having trust issues, which has affected their relationship this season.

NBA superstar LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert's relationship are reportedly nearing a fractured state, according to The Athletic. Moreover, James strained relationship has also extended to the entire front office, as the four-time MVP was reportedly unhappy with how the way things are being run in the team.

The report enumerated some of the key reasons that have added to the erosion of James and the Cavs officials' relationship. First, the signing of Cedi Osman last summer was something that didn't sit well with James who attempted to bring in Jamal Crawford to Cleveland. Another was the departure of fellow all-star Kyrie Irving to Boston. James told the front office not to trade Irving as he attempts to mend their ties.

Still related to Irving, the report said that James was not informed that the former had already been dealt with the Celtics. He was only told when the deal was already agreed upon by the two teams. On the side of Gilbert, people within the organization apart from James are reportedly unhappy with some of his decisions. These include refusing to extend the contract of former GM David Griffin after their 2016 title conquest.

On a positive note, the Cavaliers broke their slump by beating the Minnesota Timberwolves at home in overtime, 140–138. It was anybody's ballgame in the final seconds with the game tied at 138-apiece, until James pushed the team to victory, first with an emphatic block on a driving Jimmy Butler, which gained the Cavs the final possession with 1.3 ticks left.

James then received an inbound pass from midcourt right at the top of the key then turned around for a fadeaway jumper that sealed the game at the buzzer. "Once I caught it, I just trusted everything I've done in my career," said James in an interview with ESPN.

With the huge victory, it will be interesting to see if the Cavs will be able to build their momentum going into the All-Star break.
