Exes can still be friends even if they were former lovers in Hollywood.
Bulgarian-Canadian actress Nina Dobrev posted this week a photo of her with ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder and his wife, Nikki Reed, as the three went out for dinner. The photo, which Dobrev posted on her Instagram account, had the caption: "Can't believe how time flies. Farewell dinner with team Somereed! So good catching up with these goofballs. All [love]."
The post already received more than 1.4 million likes and over 70,000 comments. Dobrev and Somerhalder are both stars in the hit CW supernatural drama television series "The Vampire Diaries," where the two played characters who also dated each other on the show. In real life, the 28-year-old Dobrev and 38-year-old Somerhalder went out for several years before parting romantically in 2013.
"I didn't want to be dating one of my costars. My goal on the show was to be professional. But sometimes you can't help who you have a connection with, and you can only fight it for so long – which I did for a really, really long time," said Dobrev in an interview with Seventeen after their breakup.
Meanwhile, Reed, who starred in "The Twilight Saga," also posted a photo of her with Somerhalder and Dobrev during their get-together on her Instagram account with a lengthy caption, blasting rumors and speculations that she and Dobrev were feuding.
"For the last few years we thought addressing any baseless rumors with silence was the best way. Besides, who wants to respond to made up stories about 'friends backstabbing friends', 'cheating exes', or 'cast members exiting shows' on low-brow websites like Hollywood life that are just perpetuating trends that preceded us," Reed said in the caption.
She went on to point out that their silence was used by people to spread more lies and that they have the "moral responsibility" to end those falsities.
The Vampire Diaries received several nominations last year from The Teen Choice Awards, including Choice TV Actor for Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, and Choice TV Show, both of which under the Fantasy/Sci-fi category. The series finale airs on March 10 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
