With streaming media giant Netflix releasing a teaser last month, fans of the comedy-drama series "Orange Is the New Black" (OITNB) have been eagerly waiting for its fifth season premiere with very little information at hand.
Season 5 will begin on June 9, as confirmed by Netflix, and the brief teaser they provided, as posted by Pop Sugar, have resulted to speculations circulating online. The trailer showed the faces of the different characters, and although not a single word was uttered during the 15-second teaser, it can be noted that Daya (Dascha Polanco) ended the video while holding a gun. The trailer had left fans throwing in questions and speculations if one of the show's favorite characters will be killed or if Daya will indeed pull the trigger.
During the season 4 finale of "OITNB," fan-favorite Poussey Washington (Samira Wiley) died tragically, leaving Brook Soso (Kimiko Glenn) devastated. Even the actress portraying Soso shared with The Hollywood Reporter that she was shocked with how things went. "I had a hunch that something was going to happen because things were going way too well," said Glenn. It can be recalled that the two enjoyed a romantic attachment, with Poussey finally finding love and with Soso meeting someone who truly understood her for who she was.
"I thought I was going to get released from prison and that we were going to have to deal with that — that there would be some drama or that something would happen. But I thought, 'Samira is safe.' She is adored and the most beloved character on this show. One hundred percent, I thought she was going to be OK," Glenn added.
Furthermore, she also floated the possibility that Poussey's demise would extremely affect and wither the spirit of Soso, stressing what her character had to go through right from the start, all the way to finding someone who understood her, then losing it all in the end.
How Soso would handle things and bounce back is also something fans could look forward to in June.
