Fans of "Pokemon GO" who are eagerly waiting for a special New Year event from Niantic Labs may have to manage their expectations.
According to a report from Comicbook.com, the mobile game developer has yet to release an announcement pointing to a special event to usher in the brand new year. What is in place, however, is the holiday event that was launched last Dec. 22.
The report noted that in 2016, "Pokemon GO" also launched a holiday event that was divided into two parts. The first launched on Christmas day, which opened more chances for players to collect eggs with Baby Pokemon. The second part, on the other hand, launched on New Year's Day, which boosted the spawn rates of various Pokemon and their respective evolutions like Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle.
It can be noted, however, that despite Niantic remaining mum on a New Year event, the developer still added some new features from the holiday event that can be enjoyed through this month. The game has increased the spawns of a number of Generation 3 Pokemon, including Treecko, Mudkip, and Torchic.
Moreover, an Express report also noted that some Trainers have started to experience longer Raid times compared to other previous locations. Some players reported experiencing Raids lasting until 8:30 p.m. while others have noted seeing new Gyms lasting until 7:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, special boxes that were introduced last Christmas Day will still be available in the in-game shop until Thursday, Jan. 4. The special boxes contain different items like Luck Eggs, Super Incubators, Premium Raid Passes, and Star Pieces.
Late last month, Niantic rolled out a new "Pokemon GO" update in line with the game's 40th Nest migration, the Daily Star reported. Though it was not a full-on update, it still brought some cool new features for players to enjoy during the holiday season. In addition, the update also added the new AR+ encounter mode for players using devices capable of ARKit support running on iOS11.
