"Saints Row IV" — the silly and hilarious open-world adventure game from developer Volition and publisher Deep Silver — is finally getting official mod support after years of being available in the market. The feature, however, is only available on the PC version of the game via the Steam Workshop.

"There were many challenges in implementing Steam Workshop support since the game was not originally designed to support modding," Volition wrote on the official Steam announcement for the feature.

His post continued, "A handful of dedicated Volition devs worked on this in their free time to update the engine and remove memory restrictions, as well as finding a way for individual mods to interact and work correctly with each other without the need for running special tools. It was all a labor of love for our fans, and we're incredibly excited to see the crazy content you come up with!"

For those who already have the game on their Steam account, the developer advised gamers to go check out the selection of modifications that are now available for download.

GameSpot, however, reported that the choices that fans have are quite slim at the moment, considering that the mod support for "Saints Row IV" is fairly new and modders are still trying to create more content for the game. But luckily, there are already a few mods that can be downloaded like the flamethrower guitar, clothes, and additional companions.

Another important note that fans should keep in mind is that the Steam Workshop support for "Saints Row IV" is only available for Windows PC users.

So far, Linux is the only operating system that the mod will support sometime soon. Unfortunately, the developer did not go into the specific details on when this will become available. More news about the matter should emerge soon.

"Saints Row IV" is available on Steam and it is currently on sale for 75 percent off of its actual price.
