If there was one thing that "The Vampire Diaries" fans wanted to see in the final season of their favorite supernatural drama, it is the return of Nina Dobrev to reprise her role either as Elena Gilbert or Katherine Pierce.

Unfortunately, there's still no confirmed report if Dobrev really will be back in the series.

It was earlier reported that a newcomer, Alexandra Chando, has been cast in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. The actress' physical similarity with Nina Dobrev had fans thinking for a while that executive producer Julie Plec has decided to use Chando to play either Elena or Katherine because of her inability to get Dobrev back in the series.

The good news is that Chando will not be playing either Elena or Katherine. It has already been confirmed that she will be playing a young doctor named Tara that the Salvatore brothers will be preying on.

It also seems like our favorite characters are in danger once more. In a recent report by TVLine, they revealed that Plec has confirmed that there will be another character death in the coming episodes of "The Vampire Diaries."

The executive producer obviously didn't reveal any names, but she did claim that the death will not be something that the fans might be happy with as she describes it as "painful" and "terrible."

The character death announcement has created speculations as to which character will see their demise in the coming episodes. There have been a lot of reports claiming that it could be Bonnie (Kat Graham) who will be next, especially if Plec is planning on bringing Dobrev back.

It has also been reported that in episode 9, "The Simple Intimacy of the Near Touch," Caroline would see Bonnie with a vial of Enzo's blood, prompting speculations if Bonnie would decide to become a vampire. So it could also be a way for the series to "kill" Bonnie and have Elena return.

"The Vampire Diaries" airs every Friday, with the series returning on Jan. 13 from their short mid-season hiatus.
