El Chapo news: Wife Emma Coronel Aispuro fears for husband's life in prison

The wife of the notorious drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán has broken her silence and appeared on a Mexican television for the first time. In an interview broadcasted by Telemundo, Emma Coronel Aispuro stated that she fears for the life of her husband.

According to the former beauty queen, she worries that the authorities are punishing El Chapo now that he has been recaptured. She said that they are slowly torturing him.

"They are there with him, watching him in his cell. They are right there, all day long, calling attendance. They don't let him sleep. He has no privacy, not even to go to the restroom," the wife stated.

Coronel also insisted that her husband is a good and not a violent man. He is just like any other man. In fact, she has never heard him say a bad word or seen him get upset at anyone.

The wife of the leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel is not the only who said the same complaints. Earlier, his lawyer Juan Pablo Badillo also claimed that the El Chapo is experiencing physical and psychological torture in prison.

"He told me verbatim: 'Every two hours at night, they wake me stridently for roll call . . . They are converting me into a zombie, they don't let me sleep. What I want is, nothing else, for them to let me sleep,'" Badillo said.

The big time drug lord managed to escape El Altiplano last July through a long tunnel. It was the second time that he was able to escape from prison. This time, the authorities are being extra careful to avoid any escape from happening again. It took for the authorities seven months to recapture him in Los Mochis in Sinaloa.

El Chapo is being transferred from cell to cell to avoid any anomaly. A group of dogs which are aware of his scents are also present all the time.
